We are in a bit of a dry spell when it comes to rain around the Stateline. In fact, we've gone 9 straight days without any measurable rain reported at Rockford Airport. We've only received 44% of our average rainfall for the month of August. This dry weather is beginning to have a negative impact on statewide crops. Though all crops are planted successfully, the dry streak is negatively affecting the maturity progress. This week, 61% of crops are coming up short or very short when it comes to adequate top soil moisture.

Forecast Rainfall through Thursday Afternoon |
Luckily there's some relief in sight. Late Wednesday night into Thursday, a cold front will bring scattered storms to the Stateline. Computer models indicate that the heaviest rainfall amounts will be to the north and west of our area, but on average, 0.50" - 1.00" of rain can be expected. This model does a pretty good job indicating our rainfall amounts. - MT
