Sunday Severe Weather Update

While strong to severe storms will be possible for the Stateline Saturday night, the severe threat really ramps up for Sunday. We just finished up a conference call with the National Weather Service and here are their thoughts on Sunday's potential for severe weather.

SPC Severe Weather Outlook - Sunday
The latest outlook from the Storm Prediction Center has the eastern half of the viewing area under a moderate risk for severe weather on Sunday, which is very rare for November.

NWS Chicago Threat Index - Sunday
The biggest threat with any severe storms on Sunday will be strong winds, but there is also a tornado threat that can't be overlooked. Remember, we are coming up on the two-year anniversary of the Caledonia tornado, so this type of severe weather is completely possible. Hail and heavy rain will also be possible with any severe storms, but are not the main concern at this time.

As for the timing, a few storms will be possible overnight that could produce some hail, but the main timeframe for any severe weather will be late morning through the early afternoon on Sunday. A graphical look at the timing of these storms is posted below. Red indicates the greatest threat for severe weather.

The whole First Warn Weather team will be monitoring this storm threat all weekend and will bring you updates as needed on WTVO, FOX 39, MyStateline.com and the First Warn Weather blog.
