A strong low pressure system will lift northeast through the Plains and into the upper Midwest Saturday and Sunday. Ahead of the low, a very warm and moist air mass will be pulled north into Illinois Friday night with nearly 70mph winds 5,000ft above the surface of the earth! It's those strong winds that will help warm temperatures well above average, but also bring the threat for heavier showers and even thunderstorms Saturday and Saturday night. The humidity will rise as well with dew points rising into the low to middle 50's Sunday afternoon - which is high for this time of year. That moisture will help build a little instability both at the surface and above as the cold front and low pressure system move closer. As we head closer towards the weekend we'll be able to better pinpoint when the rain will fall and get a closer look at thunderstorm potential.
