There was a wide range of low temperatures this morning from -5 degrees in Freeport all the way down to -13 degrees in Rochelle and Galena. Wind chills were even worse, with those numbers falling as low as -30 degrees in a few locations. With the sun today, temperatures will climb into the low teens. It's still a far cry from our average high of 32 degrees, but at least we're going up. Unfortunately, we won't be going up by much even into the weekend.
Highs both Saturday and Sunday will remain in the middle teens and then another drop in temperatures is expected by early next week.
To add on to that, it looks like we'll get some snow Saturday afternoon as a fast moving clipper system moves across the middle of the country. There isn't much surface support with our next system - meaning the surface low won't be too strong - but there is a decent amount of upper level support, or a strong upper level low. This will allow the snow to fall at a decent clip Saturday afternoon. Accumulations will range between 1" to 3" with most coming during the afternoon. The snow will taper to flurries during the evening with high pressure moving back in by Sunday afternoon. After that, lows both Sunday and Monday night will drop well below zero with wind chills back near -20 degrees to -25 degrees.
