As quickly as Mother Nature brings the 50's this afternoon, she'll quickly take them away by the middle of this week.
A cold front sitting across the upper Midwest will slide south through Monday night slowly pulling a colder air mass into Illinois. Temperatures early in the day Tuesday will likely reach the low 40's but then fall into the 30's by the afternoon. As the front moves into central Illinois, light rain will be likely across southern Wisconsin late morning and early afternoon, shifting south into northern Illinois by the afternoon and evening. This will occur at the same time temperatures are expected to fall allowing a transition to a rain/snow mix during the evening before switching over to all snow by Tuesday night. Accumulating snowfall does look
likely, especially for our southern counties. In fact, areas across the Illinois/Wisconsin border could pick up a couple inches of snow while a little further south nearly 4" to 5" of snow will be possible.
The snow initially will be heavy and wet which will limit snow totals to an extent for the area but then as the temperature falls into the 20's by Wednesday morning it will turn a little more fluffy. Winds will increase from the Northeast Wednesday keeping wind chills in the teens through the afternoon.
The cold chill doesn't last too long. Temperatures will rise back into the 40's by the end of the week.
