Temps Above 50° Likely!
Monday we will break the half century mark, with low 50s expected around Rockford. Down near the I-88 corridor, temps in the mid 50s are possible. You have to go back to last year to find a temp as warm as what will be experienced on Monday: December 4th was the last time we got above 50°. This puts in perspective how brutally cold this winter has been; we've truly earned the warm up. A few ingredients are coming together to allow for the surge of warmth.
Winds in the low level of the atmosphere are howling near 60 mph from the southwest ushering in warmer, and slightly more humid air. That's why we'll keep some clouds around on Monday but also increase those temps to above seasonal conditions. Don't get used to the warmth though: on Tuesday our next front moves in and will bring us some rain and on the back end of the system, some more snow. Details on snow amounts coming up in future blog posts! -MT
