The latest models are still going with 1-2" of snow for most of the Stateline. Some areas in Jo Daviess and Green counties could see snow totals up to 3" by Sunday morning. -BA
ORIGINAL POST: Saturday's snowfall isn't looking like a major snow event, but it's the first true accumulating snowfall of the season which will cause some issues on the untreated roads.
Low pressure moving south of the Stateline Saturday will bring snow, first in Iowa during the afternoon and then into Wisconsin and Illinois by Saturday evening. There isn't much moisture with this system, however, the forcing in the atmosphere will be strong allowing snow to accumulate up to 3" in a few locations. Early Saturday afternoon will remain dry, but cloudy. Light snow will begin to fall after 3pm and overspread northern Illinois, picking up in intensity after 6pm/7pm.
Temperatures will be in the 20's as the snow is falling which will cause the snow to liquid ratios to be higher than the average 10:1. This means the snow will be a little more fluffy, but with surface and pavement temperatures at or below freezing, the snow will quickly accumulate causing roads to become slick by Saturday night. The bulk of snow will be out of here by 2am Sunday morning with lighter snow showers lasting into Sunday afternoon.
