Heat will build in late this week and into the weekend

Today has been beautiful with partly cloudy skies across the region. Temperatures warmed into the low to middle 80's with those puffy, scattered cumulus clouds around. Temperatures will fall into the upper 50's tonight with clear skies and calm winds expected. The calm winds and clear skies expected tonight will continue into Wednesday due to the close proximity of a high pressure system that will be off to our west through Wednesday. Highs on Wednesday will again be comfortable around 81F.

Then, by Thursday morning, the high pressure system slides off to the southeast of us. This will put us on the backside of the high pressure, meaning winds will be coming out of the southwest. What does that mean for our weather? Well, it will mean an increase in humidity and temperatures starting on Thursday. It looks like temperatures will top out in the mid 80's on Thursday with an uptick in the humidity. Thus, it will feel more hot and humid to you on Thursday compared to what we saw today and what we will see tomorrow.

Friday and Saturday will feature temperatures in the upper 80's with some showers and thunderstorms possible Friday morning and afternoon/evening. The humidity will be slightly higher this weekend, which will make it feel sticky out. When you factor in the warm temperatures and higher humidity values, it will feel like it is in the low 90's Friday and Saturday. With high pressure remaining off to our east and southeast, we will continue seeing southwesterly winds, which will keep us hot and humid through early next week. Sunday currently appears to be the day featuring the hottest temperatures as I am calling for a high of 91F with partly cloudy skies.

Monday is when the high pressure center slides enough to the east to allow a cold front to approach from the northwest by Monday evening with an associated low situated in South-Central Canada. This front will bring a chance of showers and storms Monday evening and Monday night as it appears now. Temperatures will likely warm into the upper 80's for many of us before the cold front and associated rain and storms move in Monday evening.

Now, while it will be getting much warmer and more humid, the heat we will see is not going to be as oppressive as what they are seeing in the Plains and Upper Midwest. Those locations are expected to see highs in the 90's and 100's through the weekend.
