After a string of 90 degree days, the pattern for us starts to shift a bit giving us a more active start to the week. Monday morning stays dry with storms ongoing off to the west in Iowa. As a low pressure system spins closer to us in the early afternoon, the Stateline could see isolated storms fire up along with the heating of the day. However, the more favored placement will be a little farther south and east of the Stateline.
By later this afternoon our attention will switch to the cold front to the west of us that will slowly shift south and east through the afternoon. The line is currently weakening this morning but looks to restrengthen a bit by the afternoon with the heating of the day. That front will bring storms with gusty winds and heavy rain fall through the evening.
The front will stall near the Wisconsin and Illinois border and this could be the focus for more thunderstorms for Tuesday afternoon. With the heating of the day and the front providing enough lift we could see even some stronger storms by the afternoon. The Storm Prediction Center has highlighted the western portions of the Stateline area with a slight risk for strong to even severe thunderstorms. Again the threats being heavy rain and gusty winds.
Over the next couple of days - with the stalled front - we could see locally about 1-2 inches of rain. With portions of the Stateline still on the dry side we could use the rain! Wednesday will allow us to dry out once again, and temperatures will fall into the upper 70's.
