October Slide

It's a new month, and the atmosphere in the northern hemisphere continues to cool gradually due to shorter days and a lower sun angle. Our average high and low temperature in Rockford on the 1st are 69 and 45, respectively. By the end of the month, that average drops to 56 and 37. We are 12.2 degrees cooler and 0.68" of precipitation drier in October than we are in September.

However, this will not be your "average" start to October. A ridge of high pressure over the nation's mid-section will keep it sunny, warm, and dry all week. High temperatures could well be in the low-80s by week's end!
