Two Tropical Systems Threaten Mexico

Hurricane Irwin and Tropical Storm Jova are both churning the waters of the north Pacific well offshore of Mexico this evening. Irwin is a strong category-1 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson scale with 90 mph maximum sustained winds. Irwin (the westernmost storm in this picture) is slowly moving toward the west-northwest at about 6mph and is located 945 miles southwest of the southern tip of Baja California. This hurricane will curve toward the north, and eventually northeast this weekend and could strengthen further.

Tropical Storm Jova is also expected to strengthen this weekend. It has 65mph maximum sustained winds and is located 505 miles southwest of Manzanillo, MX. Jova is moving north-northwest at 8mph, but will also curve toward the north and northeast over the weekend. Jova will probably become a hurricane this weekend. There are no watches or warnings in-effect for either storm at this time, but the National Hurricane Center will continue to monitor these storms this weekend.
