Friday morning weather update

The heat index as of 11am has reached the mid to upper 90s and the low 100's further south.  Just as thought, the showers moving in earlier this morning pretty much fizzled out.  Thunderstorms are still expected with the passage of a cold front later this evening (right now looks like the timing of storms will be between 3pm and 8pm).  Working on an analysis now and will get it out by early afternoon regarding thunderstorm potential.

8:25am Update: A few showers, maybe an embedded thunderstorm, will continue to sink south into Jo Daviess County this morning.  We're still under the slight risk for stronger storms with the passage of the cold front this afternoon.

Skies are starting clear this morning but clouds will move in as showers and thunderstorm are moving southeast out of Minnesota and Wisconsin.  This line is showing signs of weakening as it moves southeast, but should it hold together there may be a few showers within the next couple of hours across southern Wisconsin and northwest Illinois.  Cloud cover from this line may hold temperatures down a bit but highs are still expected to rise into the low 90s by the afternoon.  As the cold front moves in later this afternoon/evening thunderstorms are expected to redevelop with strong wind gusts possible.  Northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin remain under a slight risk for severe storms this afternoon.
