Milder Pattern Moving In

We have been seeing some colder weather over the past few days with high temperatures remaining in the 30's. That has been due to a cold front that passed earlier this week, bringing down a pool of colder air from Canada. A closed low pressure system is sending some snow showers through the region this morning, but that will move off to the northeast this afternoon, taking the snow and cloud cover with it. Once that moves away, we will begin to see the clouds break tonight, giving way to partly cloudy skies. High pressure will move in for Thursday and remain in place through the weekend. That will allow for mainly sunny skies to dominate the forecast, but it also is going to set the entire region up for a warm up.

High pressure will slide to the east by Friday, which will put the Stateline in a southwesterly flow as the jet stream lifts well to the north near the Canadian border. That kind of pattern usually equates to milder air moving in from the south. That will hold true in this particular situation. Temperatures will near 40° Thursday, but middle 40's are likely Friday. By the time we get to this weekend, upper 40's are a distinct possibility, especially on Saturday when 50° cannot be ruled out in some locations. A cut-off low pressure system will swing by to our south Sunday and Monday, but that system will likely not send any precipitation our way (only about a 20% chance of a few sprinkles Sunday). What it will do is turn our mostly sunny skies to partly cloudy to round out the 7-day forecast.

Temperatures will not tumble much at all to begin next week, and looking ahead, it does not appear a significant cool down is in store.
