Friday Snow Potential Update

As you saw in the previous post, Chief Meteorologist Candice King talked about snow potential Friday night into Saturday afternoon. The National Weather Service has now issued a Winter Storm Watch for Friday evening into Saturday for the southwest side of the Stateline. For now that watch includes Jo Daviess, Carroll, Whiteside, Ogle, Lee, and DeKalb counties.

This is the area that Candice highlighted yesterday. We are still looking for a narrow band of heavy wet snow, that will bring snow accumulations over four inches (dark blue area). With this system we will notice a tight and sharp gradient of snow totals. Some will only see minimal snow accumulations, while others will need the snow blower.

This axis of heaviest snow could shift in the upcoming forecasts, so make sure to keep checking back for updates. This will be a heavy wet snow, that will make it difficult to shovel. It will also make for hazardous travel through Saturday afternoon. Winds will also increase out of the east, with strong gusts near 35mph.

This forecast is not set in stone, we'll continue to tweak the forecast and keep you updated as we head into the weekend.
