Thursday Update

The back edge of the rain is now moving out of the area, and we will notice slowly decreasing cloud cover. We lucked out with any snow this morning, as the low pressure system just wasn't quite strong enough to allow for any dynamic cooling to lead to snow.

As the system departs to the east, it will strengthen quite a bit over the northeast and lead to heavy snow totals in Michigan, Indiana, and New York. We did see quite a bit of difference in rain totals across the Stateline. A baroclinic zone set up over the southern half of the Stateline, and this is where heavy rain was able to develop. Radar estimates show about an inch of rain along I-88, near Sterling and Dixon, and from Amboy to Paw Paw. But looking farther north near Rockford not much rain at all fell, closer to a tenth of an inch, and trace amounts near southern Wisconsin.

There's a small chance for a spotty sprinkle this afternoon, but mostly we will notice dry conditions and slowly decreasing cloud cover into the afternoon.
