Hail the size of golf and tennis balls fell over southeast Rockford Wednesday evening as a strong thunderstorm with a rotating updraft moved south of Rockford. The storm initially developed over Stephenson County, producing quarter sized hail south of Freeport. From there the storm grew as it moved into Winnebago County south of Rockford.
