The Cold Continues . . . But For How Long?

A very chilly start to our day today with a low of 17 degrees - only 3 degrees away from the record low of 14 set in 2017 - just a year ago! We struggled to get the mercury up to 30 degrees today, 21 degrees below the average high of 51 degrees for this time of the year.  The upcoming week will be very similar to today with mid-December like temperatures. Our average high really drops quickly this time of the year, and by next Saturday the average high is 47 degrees, but we won't exceed the average all week, in fact we will average 12 degrees below the typical high for the entire week!  Now the question might come up - will this trend continue?

The most recent outlook from the Climate Prediction Center is showing a 33% chance of above normal temperatures for the time period of December thru February and the Climate Prediction Center also has issued a strengthened forecast for El Nino conditions this winter, which typically brings warmer and drier conditions to the Stateline area.

Based on this feedback, the chances appear good that this recent cold snap will be short lived and we will return to a more average or even above average temperature trend . . . but this is the Stateline and we know things can change quickly!   Stay tuned!
