Since July, rainfall chances have been far and few between as high pressure has dominated much of the Midwest for the majority of the summer. This has left many areas in an abnormally dry season and some drought conditions have started to show in some areas of the Midwest.
As of Saturday, much of the state line is still in an abnormally dry to moderate drought conditions even after Friday morning's rain. Although the light rainfall may help a little, higher totals will be needed to swing the tide of this drought pattern. Luckily precipitation chances look to increase through the weekend!
With the arrival of a surface low pressure system along with a warm front, showers and thunderstorms look to develop along the front this afternoon into the evening.
As of now precipitation chances tonight still remain lower than chances tomorrow as a more widespread area of rain is expected to move through tomorrow. But going back to today, along the warm front temperatures will reach nearly 90 degrees as well as isolated to scattered thunderstorms will remain possible. Some areas today may receive no rain while others may reach a half an inch all depending on where thunderstorms occur today.
Through tomorrow however, rain chances are much higher as stronger upper-level winds along with increased moisture will easily fuel consistent rain showers tomorrow. Although these rain showers may not produce heavy downpours consistent rainfall looks likely through the morning and afternoon tomorrow.
Through the morning hours tomorrow widespread rain showers will develop mainly just south of the Wisconsin border. Don't expect thunderstorm development from this round but some consistent and much needed rain will be possible along with significantly cooler temperatures. Higher rain chances move in through the afternoon however as some stronger forcing in the upper levels as well as increased moisture will fuel more widespread rain showers. This round will carry some heavier downpours through the area, so this may the instance of highest precipitation totals through the weekend. After much of the rainfall has moved out, we may see some areas above at least an inch of rainfall with some areas possibly even above an inch and a half of rain. This however as previously mentioned, will be much needed considering the drought potential/conditions we have been under the past few weeks. After this rain expect temperatures to once again drop into the 70's for much of next week!
