Monday marked the eighth day in a row where temperatures at the Rockford Airport remained very summer-like, soaring into the 80s.
For those that are a fan of the recent warmth, you'll be happy to know that there aren't any signs that a pattern change will occur in the near-future. Cloud cover exited Stateline skies shortly after the midnight hour, allowing low temperatures to fall into the low to mid 50s. This will leave Tuesday with plenty of sunshine from start to finish, allowing temperatures to peak in the upper 80s. Similar to Monday, humidity will not be an issue.
Couple of things to point out for tonight. One, the "corn" or "harvest" full moon will be present. It's considered a "supermoon" since the moon will appear 15% brighter than normal.Secondly, it looks like we're in for a partial lunar eclipse this evening. During a partial lunar eclipse, a portion of the moon enters the Earth's shadow, which will give the moon the appearance that something took a "bite" out of the lunar surface.
Locally, the partial lunar eclipse will begin at 7:41PM, maximize at 9:44PM, then come to an end around 11:47PM. Following the eclipse, starlit skies will pave the way for a sun-filled Wednesday. Afternoon highs will once again reach the upper 80s with humidity remaining out of the conversation.
Forecast models do show a little more moisture spilling in for Thursday, which may allow clouds to fill our skies a bit more. Eventually, this may lead to a chance for an isolated shower or storm, especially late in the day or sometime Thursday night. Nothing substantial that would improve our growing drought situation. Afternoon highs are then to remain in the upper 80s to round out the work week, then cool into the low 80s for the upcoming weekend.
