Another Round of Rain...More Snow to the North

A weak trough of low pressure to the west this morning has been the focus for a few light snow showers to develop across parts of Wisconsin and back through western Iowa.  While most of this should remain to the west, there may be a brief flurry or two this morning followed by a light shower later this afternoon.

The next system is already beginning to develop across the southern Plains and will lift northeast as the jetstream pushes onshore in southern California.  The current storm track will take the low from the Oklahoma panhandle through northern Missouri Tuesday night and across north-central Illinois by Wednesday afternoon.  This, for the most part, does leave us on the 'warm-side' of the system, while heavy snow will likely be found from the Plains up through the upper Great Lakes.  Some model guidance is suggesting up to an inch or more with this system as it pulls closer late on Tuesday with a few embedded thunderstorms.  While we're not forecasting any major flooding, an inch of rainfall could lead to rises in creeks and streams which would eventually cause some of the local rivers to rise later this week.  There are a few rivers that are nearing bank full and those will have to be watched closely over the next couple of days.  If this low were to shift a little further to the south we would end up seeing more of a mix of precipitation rather than all heavy rain.
