The forecasted rain is only slowly approaching the Stateline as of this writing. Rockford still has cloudy skies at the 8pm report with a temperature of 38 and a dewpoint of 29. Because this dewpoint temperature is significantly lower than the air temperature, some of the rain is evaporating before it hits the ground. However, it is raining right now in Savannah and it is actually snowing lightly in Monroe (although a change-over to mainly rain is expected later tonight).
The latest radar trends and model information indicate that our rain totals may not be as impressive as we were thinking earlier. For example, there is currently a "dry slot" on the broad, Midwest radar picture extending from western Illinois through much of Missouri. Although it is possible that the area of rain approaching us from the southwest will get better-organized as the main low continues to develop and moves towards us, I think we'll fall short of the half to three-quarter inch totals we were thinking about earlier. Most areas will see less than a half inch of rain, in my opinion. A change-over to flurries and light snow showers is still expected late tomorrow afternoon and tomorrow night with little or no accumulation.
