Monday morning weather update


A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for Jo Daviess, Stephenson, Carroll and Whiteside counties until 8pm. Storms are now forming in central and eastern Iowa and are tracking northeast. Instability continues to build as skies have cleared some this afternoon. This will help build thunderstorms late this afternoon and evening as the cold front moves into eastern Iowa.

Penny sized hail reported in Edgerton (Rock County) with storm that came through earlier.  Also, law enforcement are reporting multiple trees down in the city of Janesville.


11:35am Update: A Severe Thunderstorm Watch continues for Green, Rock and Walworth counties in Wisconsin and for Winnebago, Boone, McHenry, Ogle, Lee and DeKalb counties in Illinois until 5pm. 

Thunderstorms continue to develop in Illinois and are tracking north/northeast into Wiscosnin.  Storms will be capable of dime to quarter sized hail and wind gusts over 60 mph.  Currently watching a storm that has moved into Rock County near Orfordville, Footville and Hanover  These cities will experience heavy rain, hail and some gusty winds either right now or very soon.


Instability continues to build ahead of storms moving into Wisconsin.  This is what will help fuel the storms currently in south-central Wisconsin from Rock County northward.  Additional thunderstorms are expected to form back west towards Iowa and Missouri ahead of a cold front that will move through later this evening.

A Severe Thunderstorm Warning is in effect for Green and Rock counties until 10:30am.  Winds close to 60 mph and hail dime to quarter sized will be possible.  Monticello, Belleville, Brodhead and Evansville will be impacted by this storm.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for Green, Rock and Walworth counties in southern Wisconisn and for Winnebago, Boone, McHenry, Ogle, Lee and DeKalb counties in northern Illinois until 5pm.

  2. Our tornado threat will be low tonight. Bigger concerns with severe storms will be large hail and strong winds. -BA
