12:25pm Update: Just as I was afraid of this morning, the warm front hasn't moved! A strong east wind has really slowed the northward progress of the front with temperatures in N. IL in the 60's, 50's in Wisconsin and upper 70's just south of the front. Still holding out hope that as the storms in Wisconsin move out, the front will track further north late this afternoon. If not, our highs will only reach the mid 70's for today.
Previous Post:
Thunderstorms Tuesday night formed just north of the state line and now continue to produce small hail and heavy rain in northern Wisconsin and Michigan. While we're quiet here, there have been a few widely scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms that have been trying to develop in southern Iowa and northern Missouri. These are forming south of the warm front and closer to the low level jet. Should they hold together, as some of our higher resolution models are suggesting, they'll move into northern Illinois after 9am. This will work to suppress the northward progress of the warm front in central Illinois and keep us a little cooler going into the afternoon. By the afternoon, any rain or storm activity should decrease as the front moves towards the Wisconsin/Illinois state line. Behind the front, temperatures will quickly warm through the 70's and into the low 80's. Kept with a high around 80 degrees for today, but if the front isn't able to make much progress to the north today then we'll remain in the 70's.
