Wildfires have continued to burn in Canada, and many of us across the country, as well as the Stateline, have been feeling the effects of the smoke. The hazy skies have been a factor for the past week or so, but a lot of it has been trapped in the upper levels of the atmosphere. And as stated in the post below, with the passage of a cold front, there has been sinking air behind the front. This sinking air is now bringing the smoke from the upper levels of the atmosphere to the lower levels, or closer to the surface. This is creating air quality issues throughout Wisconsin, where the smoke is thickest. Because of this, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has issued a special air quality notice.
The air quality has reached the unhealthy level for sensitive groups, including the elderly, children, or anyone with respiratory problems. The density and expansiveness of the smoke will vary place to place however. The smoke should continue to filter across the area and move to the southeast today. If you want to receive current information on the air quality you can call 1-866-324-5924.
