Storms move back in the forecast following Monday's warmth

It's been nice to dry out these past few days, but that dry stretch of weather will soon be ending.  The rest of Sunday night will remain dry and mild.  Skies stay partly cloudy with overnight temperatures falling into the middle 60's.

A strong cold front in the western Plains Sunday evening has allowed thunderstorms to rapidly develop with damaging winds, hail and very heavy rainfall from Minnesota down through South Dakota.  This is where the strongest storm activity will be through Monday morning.  As the cold front moves southeast during the day Monday, thunderstorms will continue to develop ahead of the front from Wisconsin down through Iowa, with an isolated storm possible during the afternoon in Northern Illinois.  The cold front isn't forecast to move through until Monday night, but storms ahead of the front could contain gusty winds and heavy rainfall.

By Tuesday, the front will have shifted to the south pulling the storm threat with it during the afternoon.  The Storm Prediction Center does have Northwest and Western Illinois highlighted under a slight risk for severe storms.
