Highs Saturday and Sunday were 15-20 degrees below average. Not typically the weather you'd expect for May. And for those who woke up early Sunday morning, a hard frost for outlying areas and record cold. The low Sunday morning fell to 31 degrees in Rockford. This tied the previous record low of 31 degrees set all the way back in 1926!
Sunday night won't be nearly as cold, but there will still be a chill in the air Monday morning. A few locations could briefly drop into the upper 30's before gradually warming to the low 40's after sunrise. Monday morning starts dry, but there will be a slight increase for the chance of rain by late Monday afternoon and evening. This will be with a cold front that moves south out of Wisconsin. Following that front, blocking high pressure becomes the dominant force over the Great Lakes for the middle of the week. This
means more sunshine and highs climbing back into the middle and upper 60's by Wednesday and Thursday. Next weekend highs could be flirting with the upper 70's. Quite the switch from what we experienced this past weekend.
