There were a few light showers that moved through southwest Wisconsin and northwest Illinois Tuesday afternoon, but they didn't amount to much. Skies have turned partly cloudy this evening with temperatures holding in the mid and upper 70's.
Strong to severe thunderstorms have developed to the west over Iowa, Kansas and Nebraska. Several tornado warnings have been issued in north-central Kansas this evening. This cluster of thunderstorms will move east and northeast tonight, reaching the Mississippi River after Midnight. While the majority of the rain and thunderstorms will hold together the instability and intensity of the storms will begin to weaken with the loss of heating.
Wind flow in the atmosphere is from southwest to northeast and this will help push the majority of the thunderstorms into southwest and south-central Wisconsin. However I do think the southern end of those storms will move through northern Illinois after 1am. Small hail and heavy rainfall will be possible during the overnight but the overall severe threat will remain low.
