Boy what a morning! With high pressure sitting right over the Stateline, our Thursday started off quiet but also pretty chilly. Under mostly clear skies and light winds, most areas started out
in the upper 40s and lower 50s. We haven't seen lows in the 40s since the middle of June. It was one of those morning's where you could see your breath. Plus, one that could have required a light jacket. As this high pressure slides a little bit to the east of the region, southeasterly & southerly winds will help our high temps climb into the upper 70s.
Today is the start of the 100th NFL season, which features the Green Bay Packers taking on the Chicago Bear at Soldier Field. Whether you are attending said game, or are firing up the grill at home, the weather is going to cooperate later today. Temperatures under partly sunny skies will be in the low 70s for tailgating and also for kickoff at 7:20 PM this evening. So go out, enjoy the weather, and enjoy the first game of the upcoming NFL season.
After a dry day today, rain chances return to the forecast late tonight into early
Friday. The night will start off with partly cloudy skies. Then we should see clouds on the increase after midnight as a system draws closer to the region. Scattered showers and a few embedded thunderstorms are possible by
early Friday morning. First chances will arrive with a passing warm front, quickly followed by a cold front. As the cold front moves through, rain chances will slowly diminish by the late morning hours leaving us with some cloud cover. Clouds may stick around for a little bit after the frontal passage, but dry air should filter in turning our skies partly sunny by the afternoon. Highs will once gain climb into the upper 70s.
Once the cold front is fully through, it will become a little bit breezy across the Stateline. Wind gusts during the afternoon and early evening will be out of the northwest and could be as high as 25 mph at times. Winds overnight Saturday will be much lighter under partly cloudy skies. Models have continued to pull back on the amount of moisture available for Saturday morning. High pressure early on in the day will bring plenty of dry time
with highs in the mid-upper 70’s. As that high weakens, the sunshine will slowly give way to mostly cloudy skies by the
evening, with a slight chance for rain returning late on Saturday and stretching into
Sunday. The greatest chance for rain this weekend will come in on
Sunday. With that said, it doesn’t appear that the weekend will be a
total washout. Sunday will be the coolest of weekend days, with highs in
the upper 60’s to lower 70’s. Looking ahead, the weather remains fairly active and much warmer as we head into next week.
