The Chicago National Weather Service traveled to Lake County Wednesday
afternoon to survey damage from a possible tornado Tuesday evening.
After surveying the damage and looking at photos/video, they determined
that an EF-1 tornado, with peak wind gusts of 90 mph, touched down north
of Waukegan before moving over Lake Michigan and becoming a water
spout.
The damage from the tornado was minor and confined to commercial
buildings and residences with windows blown out, minor roof and fence
damage, and damage to a gas station canopy. One person was injured in
the storm. Numerous trees fell or had heavy branch damage. The tornado
was on the ground for 3.1 miles and was 200 yards wide. More
