A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for all of southern
Wisconsin and northern Illinois until 2am Friday morning. Severe
thunderstorms have developed over northeast Iowa, but are currently
moving into southwest Wisconsin.
A cold front stretches through central Iowa with a line of thunderstorms
developing along and ahead of the front. As the cold front moves east
the line of storms will also move east. Storm coverage will increase
from west to east between 9pm and 2am, rolling through Rockford around
Midnight.
Greatest threats with these storms will be gusty winds and very heavy
rainfall. Temperatures are fairly warm above the surface so this will
likely limit our hail threat tonight. There is a low risk for
tornadoes, but won't be our main concern for
tonight. The only active
warning right now is for a Flash Flood Warning for far northwest Jo
Daviess County until 1:15pm. A Flash Flood Watch remains in effect for
Green, Rock and Walworth counties as well as for Stephenson and Jo
Daviess counties until Friday morning.
