Current US Snow Cover

Snow has been hard to come by across the Stateline area so far during this Meteorological Winter which began on December 1st. We've only seen 0.1" of snow at the Rockford Airport this snow season, while 3.5" is considered average to-date.
A big part of the reason we've not had appreciable snow here is that the jetstream has been largely lined-up from southwest to northeast, or from roughly west Texas into the Stateline area. (This is typical of a La Nina pattern, which we are experiencing.) Although this pattern can still allow for occasional surges of cold air from the northwest, that has yet to materialize this year.

Conversely, this pattern has allowed for colder, snowier weather across much of the inter mountain west. Even as far to the south as Lubbock, TX, they have about 1" of snow on the ground. In fact, it's currently 20 degrees in Lubbock right now with light snow falling!

Colder air is on the way for the Stateline, and we could actually see some of the white stuff by Thursday night or Friday morning.
