Friday Looks Great... The Weekend...Not so Good

The weather system that brought the first measurable snow of the season, (0.10") to Rockford, has moved off to the east.  High pressure at the surface will bring sunny skies, and light winds to the area today with a high near 40 degrees. The high will move quickly off to the east tonight as low pressure develops over Texas. The low temperature will occur this evening around 30 degrees, and then rise overnight as clouds and winds increase from the south. Some light rain showers may develop after midnight. The first impulse in the southwesterly flow aloft will bring an area of rain across the Stateline on Saturday morning. Drier air will follow behind that impulse in the afternoon shutting down the rain, but some drizzle will be possible. The high temperature on Saturday will be in the middle 40's. Saturday night will be rainy ahead of the main surface low as it approaches from the southwest.  There could be some snow mixed with rain late to the north and west of Rockford as colder air follows in behind the low as it departs to the northeast across Wisconsin. The overnight low on Saturday night should be around 34 degrees in the Rockford area.  Scattered rain showers are possible on Sunday morning across north central Illinois, but snow showers may be mixed in across northwestern Illinois, and light snow is possible just north of the Wisconsin state line.  It will be mostly cloudy and breezy on Sunday with a high around 37 degrees.  Colder temperatures will prevail for next week under partly cloudy skies.
