Wet Morning Commute

Its been a relatively quiet and dry week with temperatures slowly climbing from the upper 60's to the low 80's. However, an incoming cold front could make things a little wet for your Friday morning commute. A cold front will sink south late Thursday and early Friday, and combined with a few incoming disturbances in the atmosphere, look to trigger rain and thunderstorms early Friday. However, it's looking like the greatest forcing will be just west and south of the area, so a lot of northern Illinois could stay dry. Models are coming together more on this system now, and it does seem that the storms will track to the south west. Our western, and especially our southwestern, counties look to have the better chance for any rain. And with current dew points in the low 60's we could see some heavier downpours with this as well. Though it looks like most of the Stateline will remain dry, prepare for rain/storms as early as day break, but not lingering too long into the day, as high pressure moves in from the north. High pressure remains in control on Saturday helping to slowly clear skies out by the afternoon. The front lifts as a warm front on Sunday and will refocus the area for more rain and storms as early as Sunday morning.
