July 4th by the Numbers

Climatologically the month of July is the hottest month out of the year for Rockford.  The warmest average high is 85 degrees with the warmest overnight low reaching 63 degrees.  The average high for July 4th is right at 85 degrees, but the hottest temperature recorded on that day occurred just 4 years ago when the high reached a whopping 102 degrees!  In fact, the high temperature from the 4th to the 6th was over 100 degrees all three days!

The coldest July 4th occurred in 1967 with a high temperature of only 62 degrees.  On average (looking back since 1906), most July 4th's have been dry - with last year being no exception.  The wettest July on record was 1973 when 1.36" fell.  I'm not anticipating any significant rainfall for tomorrow.

Here are the July 4th stats compiled by the Chicago National Weather Service.
