Midwest Storm Threat Wednesday Evening

10:10pm Update: Stronger thunderstorms continue to move across Wisconsin Wednesday evening, while weaker storms move south in Iowa.  There may be a few showers that move through parts of Jo Daviess and Carroll counties, but it looks like our rain chance overnight continues to dwindle.

Severe thunderstorms have been moving through parts of Wisconsin, Minnesota and Iowa Wednesday evening, where a Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued.  Greatest threats with any of these storms will be large hail and damaging winds.

The storms to the north are forming along and ahead of a cold front that will continue to move southward through the night, reaching northern Illinois after Midnight.  By that time, the energy in the atmosphere will be much lower than what it is to the north.  In fact, many of our models show the thunderstorms weakening quite a bit tonight.  I still do think there will be a few scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms around, but we're not expecting any severe weather tonight.  Rainfall totals tonight are expected to remain under a quarter of an inch.
