Areas of fog possible Monday night

Much of Monday afternoon was spent under cloudy skies and breezy southwest winds. Temperatures warmed into the low 20s for most, but wind chills stayed in the teen throughout the afternoon. Cloud cover continues to move across northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin Monday evening, but the back edge of the clouds is now nearing northwest Illinois which will lead to a mostly clear sky later this evening.

Winds will continue to ease through the night before picking back up Tuesday morning. A pull of warm air aloft will keep us out of the single digits but could help allow fog to develop during the overnight. And with temperatures staying in the teens, it's possible that freezing fog may form.

The best chance for dense fog, and freezing fog, to form will be west of the Mississippi River but there could be a few spots across northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin where we see fog occur. And if the fog is dense enough then the risk for freezing fog will also go up. If we do see freezing fog during the overnight and early Tuesday morning, a few slick spots on the roads could occur. Please keep this in mind for the morning commute. We'll have to see how things develop through the rest of the evening and into the overnight but anticipate at least some fog to occur overnight.
