Even though we had a trace of rainfall Tuesday (which is 0.01" or less), we're coming off of a ten day dry stretch! That stretch, however, is going to be ending tonight. Strong low pressure in the west will swing north through the upper Great Lakes Wednesday and Thursday. Rainfall in Iowa this morning will begin to slide east this afternoon affecting areas west of the Stateline after 4pm. Scattered showers will continue into the overnight with a few non-severe thunderstorms not out of the question.
You'll need the umbrella Thursday morning with a brief break in the rain developing mid-day. Rain and even storm chances will increase in coverage by Thursday afternoon and evening when the bulk of the heaviest rainfall is expected to occur into Thursday night. Depending on the placement of a warm front, a few storms could contain stronger wind gusts south of Rockford along with some very heavy rain. Rainfall totals will range from a few tenths of an inch on the lighter side all the way up to an inch of rain along I-88. The two images to the left are estimated rainfall totals through Friday morning.
