The rain that fell last week has been the most amount of rain we've seen in quite some time, and with few rain chances expected this week, we won't be experiencing one inch rain totals any time soon.
Tropical Storm Simon continues to weaken in the eastern Pacific and will likely become just a remnant low pressure system by early Wednesday morning as it moves onshore in the Baja California peninsula. While Simon is expected to bring heavy rain to the southwest, part of that moisture will become caught up in the jet stream midweek and move through the southern Plains and mid-Mississippi River Valley.
Building high pressure in the Great Lakes Wednesday will keep the weather fairly quiet in Northern Illinois and Southern Wisconsin during the afternoon. Rainfall is possible Thursday, but the strength of the high will determine just how far north the heaviest of the rain reaches. Right now, it looks to stay to our south with only lighter rain showers coming Thursday and Thursday night. After Thursday, the next significant chance for rain doesn't look to arrive until early next week.
