After a Spring-like start to our day, it will feel like winter this evening afternoon.
Winter Weather Advisories are now in effect for many areas in the Stateline. Already in effect for our western counties: Jo Daviess, Carroll, Whiteside through this evening, along with southern Wisconsin.
For the rest of northern Illinois (including Rockford) the advisory will go into effect at 3pm and last through the evening.
This advisory isn't for accumulating snow, but rather for ice accumulation. Between .05" to .10" is possible through the afternoon and evening, leading to slick and potentially ice covered roads. The change over will happen from west to east as a strong cold front drops temperatures quickly.
Rockford's change over will begin to happen around 3pm and last through the early evening, impacting the evening rush.
While it will be brief, it will still cause impacts to area roads. Watch for slick conditions as you head home from school or work.
A flash freeze is also likely tonight, with rain from showers this morning refreezing on untreated surfaces tonight and into tomorrow morning. If looks wet later today its most likely ice!
Take is slow this afternoon/evening.
Here's a look at current temperatures around 1pm today.
