Active Pattern Brings Flooding, Thunderstorms and Snow Next Week

The weather pattern turns much more active early next week with several storm systems expected to impact parts of the Midwest, South and Northeast.

A dip in the jet stream out west will push the jet stream up north over the middle of the country.  The northward shift will allow temperatures to warm into the upper 40's as far north as southern Wisconsin, and possibly the 50's in northern Illinois.

The southwest to northeast placement of the jet stream will bring several low pressure systems up from the southwest and into the Great Lakes.  Each low pressure system that passes will bring rain showers to the south and snow showers to north.

As the forecast stands now (Thursday evening) much of the Stateline will remain on the 'warm' side of the storm track, pushing temperatures into the upper 40's both Monday and Tuesday.  Heavy rainfall, and even a few thunderstorms, are possible Monday afternoon over northern and central Illinois.  Rainfall amounts over an inch could occur for parts of Illinois Monday into Tuesday, depending on the exact track of low pressure.

Flooding could become a concern if the heavy rain materializes Monday and Tuesday, especially for locations in northeast and east-central Illinois.  North of the stationary front heavy snow will be likely over the Plains and up through parts of Minnesota and Wisconsin.

The storm system is still several days away and a southward shift of the stationary front would bring more wintry weather into northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin, along with cooler temperatures.
