I think it's safe to say that our snow lovers woke up very happy on this Friday morning as most of us saw AT LEAST 5 inches of snow from the storm system that moved through last night. Kirkland gets the trophy though, as they came up with a whopping 9 inches of snow, with De Kalb being a close second. On top of this, more snow is on the way!
As we go through the overnight tonight we'll start to see some light snow move into our area ahead of a mid-level front that'll move through after midnight. Luckily, accumulations will stay small, most of us seeing around 1.5 inches of snow, with up to 2 inches possible in our southern counties.
The light snow stays with us through the morning, becoming more isolated around 9am, then moving out for the afternoon. We'll hang on to the cloud cover though, with temperatures in the low 20's for our highs Saturday afternoon.
Once we get into the overnight Saturday night, another mid-level trough will move in to bring a second round of weekend snow. This will have a small accumulation too, hitting around 1.5 to 2 inches by the time it moves out Sunday morning. Luckily, after that system moves out, sunshine will be with us for the rest of the weekend afterwards, even heading into the work week.
The only other snow chance next week will be on Tuesday, but not expecting much. Other than that, we stay dry next week, with temperatures slightly warming up to around 30° by Wednesday, with plenty of sunshine next week as well.
Something to keep in mind this weekend. Even though the accumulations from the next two systems will be light, they'll still add up to these fairly high snow depths. The areas from Winnebago to McHenry, and portions of Lee county, are seeing snow depths of anywhere between 7-12".
If you live in those areas, get those snow blowers ready, because it'll take some time to clean up the snowfall. Also be mindful of the roads in these areas, as some of them may be messy for the next few days.
