We've added up quite a snowfall deficit so far this winter season, only receiving about half of what we typically would accumulate by this time during the winter months. But that might be changing a little over the next week as several chances for snow appear to be on the horizon.
The first chance for snow arrives late Friday evening and overnight. Warm air moving northward following the passage of low pressure will bring light snow showers to northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin. Snow totals should remain light and under an inch during this time. The next chance for snow arrives Saturday with the arrival of a cold front. Light snow will develop during the afternoon and evening on Saturday, and like Friday's snowfall, remain relatively light and under three inches.
A second cold front arrives on Sunday bringing with it additional light snow showers during the first half of the day. Again, this snow looks to remain relatively light.
A fourth and perhaps stronger system moves through the Plains and Midwest Monday afternoon and Monday evening. This low pressure system may have a little more energy associated with it and could bring a better chance for snow during that time.
Yet another cold front arrives on Wednesday bringing a slight chance for snow during the day. While no big snow storms look likely, when all said and done overall snow totals could add up to half a foot of snow.
