7:20pm Update:

Visibility is slowing beginning to improve to the west as the back edge of the snow begins to cross over the Mississippi River.  Light snow is still falling, but the intensity of the snow will continue to lighten up over the next couple of hours.

The back edge of the snow will continue to move from west to east through 9pm, with the snow clearing most of the Stateline after 10pm or 11pm.  After that a few flurries or very light snow showers are still possible.

Some improvement in the road conditions will occur as the snow comes to end, but still expect snow covered roads through the majority of the overnight.

A Winter Weather Advisory remains in place for northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin as light to moderate snow continues to fall over the Stateline.  Snowfall rates have been relatively light, but there have been periods of moderate snow reducing visibility down to under half a mile in some locations.

Snow totals so far range between one and three inches, with likely another one to two inches of snow before coming to an end Monday evening.  This will bring totals up between two and five inches of snow by Tuesday morning.

Road conditions were quick to deteriorate once the snow began Monday afternoon due to how cold the atmosphere was.  Salt becomes less effective the colder it is, allowing the snow to quickly accumulate on the road once it started.

Road conditions will continue to remain hazardous as the snow falls, which will likely last through 9pm for some.  It looks like most of the snow will be coming to an end after 10pm Monday evening.  Even though the snow will have ended, roads will remain slick during the overnight and early Tuesday.  So make sure to plan accordingly.

Sunshine does return briefly Tuesday before another system comes in Tuesday evening, quite possibly bringing another inch or two during the overnight.
