Monday afternoon weather update

Hazy skies continued once again Monday afternoon as temperatures warmed into the upper 70s and low 80s. Under mostly clear skies Monday night overnight lows will fall into the low 50s.

The smoke and haze will continue into Tuesday, and possibly through the rest of the week, as thicker smoke out west moves into the Plains and Midwest. The northwest flow in our jet stream shifts east Tuesday morning, but a west to east wind will pull the thicker smoke currently over the northern Rockies into the Midwest.

Temperatures will continue to warm through the 80s but may be tempered just a little bit if we end up with thicker smoke overhead. Right now, the forecast has highs reaching the mid and upper 80s.

Another weather concern will be the elevated brush fire risk due to low relative humidity values and dry vegetation. Surface winds won't be overly strong, so that will help, but the elevated brush and grass fire risk will remain through Thursday.
