Calling all Volunteer Weather Watchers!

When severe weather happens, whether it be during summer or winter, it's important to know what's happening across the area.  While the radar we use can tell us what's happening within the clouds, ground truth information is vital.   And that's where you come in!

We've decided to establish a spotter network across the area and are holding an informational meeting next Thursday, August 18th, at 7pm here at the station.  At the meeting you'll get to meet Chief Meteorologist Ty Shesky, Weekend Meteorologist Eric Nefstead and Morning Meteorologist Candice King.  We'll go over what reports are helpful during severe weather and how you should gather the information.  Safety is our number one priority so of course we'll go over how to keep safe when reporting severe weather.  The informational meeting won't go into too great of detail on spotter training, but rather what type of information is useful to us to be able to report back to our viewers as well as the National Weather Service.

If this sounds like something you're interested in doing, please RSVP by next Monday, the 15th.  You can either email us: weather@wtvo.com or call: 815-968-5909.  We look forward to meeting everyone next week!
