First accumulating snow possible for the Plains

While we may escape the rain/storm chances all together this weekend a strengthening storm system could bring the first accumulating snow for some in the northern Plains.

An area of low pressure will develop in the Rockies Saturday and move northeast into Minnesota by Sunday.  Precipitation may initially start as rain and then either mix with or change over to all snow if enough cold air gets wrapped into the deepening low.  Along with the possibility of accumulating snow, winds will increase and cause any snow that does fall to blow around reducing visibility Saturday night.  With the current track the Devils Lake Basin into northeast North Dakota would stand the highest probability of receiving accumulating and blowing snow.

We'll remain on the warmer side of this system heading in to the weekend.  A weakening cold front will move through late Saturday and only provide a slight chance of rain/thunderstorms.  The bigger story for us will be the wind as it will be pretty gusty throughout the weekend.  We'll continue to provide updates throughout the week on this developing storm.
