Quiet Monday... Then Good Rains on the Way Monday Night - Tuesday Night

A weak cool front is working it's way into the Stateline this evening. Very little Gulf moisture is available,  so light rain showers will be limited to areas near and south of Interstate 88 tonight . Skies will be partly cloudy overnight with a low temperature near 44 degrees. There may be some scattered areas of fog (mostly to the west of Rockford) with the temperature reaching dew point levels. Patchy fog will burn off in the early morning hours. It will be partly cloudy through mid afternoon when clouds will increase from the southwest. High temperatures on Monday will be around 59 degrees. Some areas to the south and east of Rockford may see some rain showers.  There will be a chance of showers in the Rockford area during the evening. Showers will be likely after midnight with low pressure beginning to intensify over the Oklahoma panhandle. That low will move to south central Kansas by 6 am on Tuesday. The  Gulf of Mexico will open up on Tuesday with lots of rain, and a chance of thunderstorms. Early indications are that many areas of the Stateline could receive between 1" and 2" of beneficial rain between Monday night and Wednesday.  The low will move into Missouri by 6 pm on Tuesday, continue northeastward right across northern Illinois on Tuesday night to a position over Green Bay, Wisconsin by 6 am on Wednesday morning. Once the low moves to the northeast of Rockford, the cold air will pour into the area.  High temperatures on Wednesday are only expected to be around 47 degrees.  A few showers will linger in the backwash early Wednesday, but most of the precipitation will be over by that time.  Chilly high pressure over the Rockies will pull cold Canadian air across the Stateline on Thursday and Friday with lows below freezing and highs only in the 40's.  Warmer temperatures can be expected for the weekend.
