Tuesday Morning Weather Update

8:55am Update: The back edge of the heaviest rain shield is now moving through western Illinois with a few light showers falling through eastern Iowa.  This rain will continue to push east of Rockford by 10am.  Totals are quite impressive, especially out of Iowa, where anywhere between 1" to 2" of rain has fallen.  Local totals range between half an inch to over an inch near Rochelle.

8:48:32 AM) nwsbot: DVN: 1 Wnw Morrison [Whiteside Co, IL] trained spotter reports HEAVY RAIN of M1.35 INCH at 07:18 AM CST -- overnight rainfall total

Rain, heavy at times, will continue for the next couple hours across southern Wisconsin and northern Illinois as moisture continues to 'overrun' the warm front.  The warm front currently lies through central Illinois near Springfield and will slowly lift north through the afternoon.  The front likely won't get much past the Wisconsin/Illinois border by this evening as low pressure moves from the southern Plains into west-central Illinois late tonight.  The heavier rain will taper off to either light showers or drizzle by early this afternoon but as the front and low move closer expect the shower intensity to increase into the evening.  Wouldn't even be surprised if a few thunderstorms develop as well.  We're still looking at the possibility of picking up over two inches of rainfall into many locations.
