Coldest Night of the Season Approaches

While its been chilly the past several morning, it will be even colder by the end of the week! If you haven't already, you'll want to find the cold weather gear!

A strong arctic cold front will pass through northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin early Thursday, only allowing high temperatures to climb into the mid to upper 30's before they crash in the late afternoon. Arctic high pressure building in behind the front, and with strong cold air advection, our northwest winds will increase quite a bit, gusting near 30 mph through the afternoon. This will make the wind chills, or 'feels like temperatures' stuck in the 20's through Thursday afternoon. With the arrival of the front, clouds will increase, so it will be a blustery and cloudy Thursday.

But you will really feel the difference as you wake up Friday morning. As our dew point numbers drop, temperatures overnight have the potential to drop into the teens. Models even suggesting the low teens will be possible. Combine this with northwest winds, wind chills will drop into the single digits as you head out the door Friday morning.

Friday will be another cold day, but we add in a little sunshine. However, temperatures will be about twenty degrees below average. The good news is, the high pressure and therefor the cold air shifts east quickly, and we will slowly warm up into the weekend.

Though, there's also a chance for some snow flurries and showers this weekend, more on that in a later post!
