Slick Monday Commute

10:00 am Update: The dense fog advisory continues through noon for Winnebago, Boone, Stephenson, Jo Daviess, and Carroll county. Make sure to take it slow over the next several hours.

Temperatures are over or near the freezing mark so freezing fog shouldn't be a concern for too much longer.

This is a look from our Mercy Health Women and Children's hospital camera along Riverside and I-90.

Here is a look at visibility across northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin.Visibility is near one mile for many area wide.

It's been a rough start to the work week, with not only thick fog but freezing fog. Overnight, fog quickly thickened as stratus clouds cleared out from northwest to southeast. With lingering moisture from yesterday's snow and rain, and clear skies, thick fog was been able to form .

A Dense Fog Advisory is in place for all of northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin through 10am this morning. Visibility hoovers below a quarter of a mile in most spots, and many only have visibility around a few hundred feet.

Not only that, but with morning temperatures well into the 20's, freezing fog has also been reported, allowing for a glaze on some area surfaces. You'll want to leave the low beams on, and to leave extra time for your drive. As we know, visibility can change quickly, and you don't want to slip and slide if you have to slow down.

Because of where we are in the year, we have a low sun angle. Because of that, it will take awhile for the fog to burn away. Make sure to take it slow this morning, and increase your following distance. The fog will linger through about 10am, before we get a bit sunshine this afternoon.
